From, Let Our Loss Be Heard- The Dance The Margaret Garner Story

The MCRC Project reenacts stories of ancestors, families, and friends who were divided from each other. The stories tell of laws that restricted who could claim membership in the White category. MCRC begins with the Black and White categories because it is the most dominant of the racial divides. We tell stories about people who, to live as White, left behind family who lived as Black. The leaving behind ranges from the most sorrowful separation to the most callous abandonment.

The MCRC Project also illustrates stories of how the other categories were formed in the shadow of the vast Black-White divide. They are stories of other peoples forced to negotiate a space between Black and White while drawn to the opportunities of the White label.
